About K&D Factory Service

Since 1945, K&D Factory Service has helped commercial kitchens across Pennsylvania keep critical foodservice equipment operating with expert repair, maintenance, installation, and long-term service support.

Our History

In 1945, as the United States celebrated the end of World War II, Bill Kraft and Spark Dixon founded K&D as a clock repair business. Over time, that work evolved into servicing kitchen equipment, laying the foundation for what would become one of Pennsylvania’s most established commercial foodservice equipment service providers.

After a period of growth, Spark Dixon retained the K&D name and continued expanding the business throughout Pennsylvania.

In 1963, Spark became a founding member of the Commercial Food Equipment Service Association (CFESA), helping establish K&D’s long-standing commitment to professionalism and technical excellence within the commercial foodservice industry.

By 1964, K&D had expanded into factory-authorized commercial equipment service and acquired the service division of a Pennsylvania utility company, allowing the business to grow into markets including Scranton, Lancaster, and Allentown.

In the decades that followed, K&D continued expanding service capabilities throughout Pennsylvania while remaining focused on dependable service and long-term customer relationships.

In 2021, K&D Factory Service became part of Unlimited Service Group, strengthening the company’s ability to support commercial kitchens with expanded resources while continuing its long-standing commitment to local service and technical expertise.

As we like to say at K&D:

“One Spark started it all, and it’s our job to keep the flame burning bright for generations to come.”

Routine planned maintenance helps reduce costly breakdowns and improve long-term equipment performance. Many commercial kitchens schedule maintenance quarterly or biannually depending on equipment usage and operational demands.

Planned maintenance helps identify worn or failing components before they lead to major equipment failures. It can also improve efficiency, extend equipment lifespan, and help reduce emergency repair costs.

Oil lifespan depends on cooking volume, filtration practices, and food type. Regular filtration and preventative maintenance can help extend oil life and improve equipment performance.

Common causes include dirty condenser coils, airflow restrictions, refrigerant leaks, electrical issues, and lack of preventative maintenance. Regular inspections can help identify issues early.

Planned maintenance, regular inspections, equipment cleaning, and timely repairs all help reduce operational disruptions and extend equipment lifespan.
